VIP.com stops accepting Canadian Players.

Online casino Vip.com and its VIP Profits merchants will no longer accept deposits from Canadian players, effective immediately.

Canadian customers will maintain access to their account until April 1, 2007. Any current balance in the account may continue to be used until that date, at which point any remaining funds will be refunded to the player and their account will be closed.

Alistair Assheton of VIP.com said that his company would be remaining in business as usual, just not serving new clients from either Canada or the US.

“We’ve taken the steps to close down telephone betting, a largely unprofitable business for us representing 2.5 percent of our business,” he said. “We’ve also turned our business towards our existing player base, and are stopping new registrations from the USA and Canada – both in an effort to ensure we can continue to offer a high quality service to our existing players.”

“Many players have been with us for many years, and we intend to be able to continue serving them for many years to come. We’ve taken the choice to allocate more of our resources to them, and to stop taking US and Canadian new accounts while the legal uncertainty rages on. We intend to carry on with business and to give our customers everything they have come to expect from us.”

Live Odds at 2007 Oscars Academy Awards.

It is like the Super Bowl, when Oscar odds get released everybody seems to come out of the woodwork wanting to bet. That’s because viewers want to enjoy an interactive experience when watching the big event.

The Oscars are given annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The honors, in their 79th edition this year, have become the world’s top film awards and are coveted by filmmakers, actors and actresses around the globe.

At online gambling sites like CANBET it only takes a few dollars to potentially win big. Last year’s Best Picture Oscar odds - as an example - paid out nicely for Crash since the oddsmakers had Brokeback Mountain as a decent size favorite.

Several races including best film have no clear front-runners, which should add to tension inside Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre where the ceremony will be held on Sunday.

While The Departed is a favorite to win, it’s not a “lock” by any stretch of the imagination. The Queen, with odds listed at +1000, would pay out the most should the film actually win. +1000 odds pay $100 for every $10 bet at CANBET

Helen Mirren is favored to win best actress for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in “The Queen,” and Martin Scorsese has a near lock on best director for “Departed.” But they are the only two appearing to be shoo-ins, the experts said.

Best actor appears to be a two-way battle between Forest Whitaker as dictator Idi Amin in “The Last King of Scotland” and veteran Peter O’Toole, nominated for the eighth time as an old actor in love with a young woman in “Venus.”

Supporting actor is too close to call between Eddie Murphy portraying a soul singer in “Dreamgirls” and Alan Arkin as an irascible grandfather in “Little Miss Sunshine.”

The supporting actress Oscar is expected to go to Jennifer Hudson as a spurned singer in “Dreamgirls,” but many experts are saying 10-year-old Abigail Breslin in “Little Miss Sunshine” and Mexico’s Adriana Baraza in “Babel” have a shot.

There will be drama on the red carpet outside the Kodak, too, as some of the world’s most beautiful and best-dressed actresses including Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman arrive dripping in diamonds and wrapped in couture gowns.

Even before they get to the red carpet, several stars including Leonardo DiCaprio will challenge convention by shunning long black limousines for environment-friendly “green cars.” That’s particularly good for Oscar organizers because they won’t be thanking their limo drivers if they win.

Here are some odds on 2007 Oscars Awards.

Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
Forest Whitaker, ‘The Last King of Scotland’ (Open: 6-5) (Current: 2-5)
Leonardo DiCaprio, ‘Blood Diamond’ (Open: 3-1) (Current: 6-1)
Peter O’Toole, ‘Venus’ (Open: 6-1) (Current: 5-1)
Ryan Gosling, ‘Half Nelson’ (Open: 8-1) (Current: 12-1)
Will Smith, ‘The Pursuit of Happyness (Open: 10-1) (Current: 10-1)
** Run Forest Run! It looks like Whitaker can start walking now with the lead he has built. Peter has started to collect some of his expected sentimental votes but not enough to be a legitimate threat.

Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
Helen Mirren, ‘The Queen’ (Open: Even) (Current: 1-15)
Meryl Streep, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ (Open: 9-5) (Current: 12-1)
Penelope Cruz, ‘Volver’ (Open: 6-1) (Current: 12-1)
Judi Dench, ‘Notes on a Scandal’ (Open: 6-1) (Current: 20-1)
Kate Winslet, ‘Little Children’ (Open: 4-1) (Current: 15-1)

Best Motion Picture of the Year
‘The Departed’ (Open: 5-2) (Current: 2-1)
‘Babel’ (Open: 3-1) (Current: 7-2)
‘Little Miss Sunshine’ (Open: 10-1) (Current: 4-1)
‘Letters From Iwo Jima’ (Open: 4-1) (Current: 12-1)
‘The Queen’ (Open: 6-1) (Current: 10-1)
The ‘Sunshine’ is coming through in the end. The ‘Little’ film has so much momentum that ‘Babel’ and ‘The Departed’ need a timeout. I do believe it’s a three-movie race and any one of these films could win. This will be a great way to finish the night. Enjoy the Oscars, everyone!

ECOGRA study of the Online Gambler revealed

Posted in Gambling General, Gambling News, Online Gambling by Diana Sterling
AddThis Social Bookmark Button

The first comprehensive picture of the average online gambler emerges today from a huge new research project involving nearly 11,000 players from 96 countries. The eCOGRA Global Online Gambler Survey commissioned by industry self-regulatory body eCOGRA (www.ecogra.org) and undertaken by the Betting and International Gaming Research Units at Nottingham Trent University, is the largest study to date into player behaviour and attitudes to the industry.

General Information

One of the most surprising findings to emerge is that although playing for money was important in terms of making games entertaining, overall, the majority of gamblers appear to not be playing to win money long-term – it is more about the entertainment. When players across all forms of gambling were asked why they gambled online, answers such as ‘to relax’, ‘for the entertainment and excitement’ or ‘to relieve boredom’, heavily outweighed ‘to make money’ or ‘to win’, highlighting that online gamblers view their pastime as simply another form of leisure activity.

The scale of the sample has allowed researchers to create the most reliable picture of the typical online poker and casino player to date.

THE AVERAGE ONLINE POKER PLAYER IS LIKELY TO:

- Be male (73.8%)
- Be aged 26-35 (26.9%)
- Play 2-3 times per week (26.8%)
- Have played for 2-3 years (23.6%)
- Play for between 1-2 hours per session (33.3%)
- Play one (24.1%) or two (24%) tables at a time
- Play both cash games and tournaments (34%)
- Play at big-blind (minimum stake) levels of 25p to £1.00 (61.2%)
- Play with 6-10% of their bankroll at a table at any one time (23%)

THE AVERAGE ONLINE CASINO PLAYER IS LIKELY TO:

- Be female (54.8%)
- Aged 46-55 (29.5%)
- Play 2-3 times per week (37%)
- Have visited more than 6 casinos in the preceding three months (25%)
- Have played for 2-3 years (22.4%)
- Play for between 1-2 hours

Although some web sites had erroneously stated in a press released that DOYLES ROOM would soon stop accepting US citizens, this couldn’t be any further from the truth.

We have known that for the past week DOYLES ROOM has been in serious negotiations with at least three parties who are very interested in buying them out. While one of the potential parties that had been in the running is BODOG, another was also a trusted online gambling entity.

And the Winner is? The Winner appears to be FULLTILTPOKER.COM

Doyles Room has informed they are attempting to relocate their US customer base directly to FullTiltPoker.com. No matter what, the deal will be completed within a week at the latest.

US citizens will not be affected by the sale and any site that had affiliate relationships with DOYLES ROOM need not worry, according Doyles Room released info.

Furthermore, the deal has to be completed by the end of this month because the hosting company supplying the servers to DOYLES ROOM will no longer provide their customers access due to some of the recent changes in US law.

Super Bowl 2007 has just ended and now sports fans are getting ready for 2007 Madness March. Yes! It is the time of excitement, slam dunks, and underdog crushing over favorite team at times. Live 2007 NCAA basketball odds available including NCAA march madness.

First of all, what exactly is March Madness? It is a single elimination tournament of NCAA Men’s basketball Championship held in March every year which takes place over 3 weeks across the U.S. and the national semifinals (the Final Four), one of the biggest sports events in United States since its 1939 inception. Not only that, it is one of the season that has the highest basketball sports bet and full of NCAA odds.

According to the NCAA, “35% of male college students bet on sports and 7 of 10 adults are reported to have placed some sort of wager in the last year,” said Bell. A special selection committee appointed by the NCAA determines which 65 teams will enter the tournament, and where they will be seeded and placed in the bracket. Because of the automatic bids, only 34 teams (the at-large bids) rely on the selection committee to secure them a spot in the tournament.

Dear Subscriber

Four Amazing 2007 Must-See Poker Tournaments!

Here’s what you need to know about what I consider to be the 4 “must-see” poker tournaments of 2007.

Aussie Millions

Well, it’s a little late for the Aussie Millions, but here’s a recap of the highlights:

With a total prize pool of AUD$12.6 million and a main event prize pool of AUD$7.47 million, the pressure was on for the 312 poker players who put it all on the line for a chance to come away with a fortune so big that Melbourne’s Crown Poker Room can once again claim an Australian poker tournament record.

It took six gruelling days and 746 eliminations to get to the final two hour head-to-head battle that saw Gus Hansen walk away as the undisputed 2007 Aussie Millions Main Event Champion. If you are curious about who else played and how much they won, check the tournament results at Crown Poker.

EPT Monte Carlo

The European Poker Tour’s season 3 Grand Finale is coming to spectacular Monte Carlo March 28 – April 1. With breathtaking views of the sparkling blue Cote d’ Azure, the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort in Monaco will be the place to see and be seen. Said to be the inspiration for the set of the classic 1953 James Bond adventure Casino Royale, what better location could there be for the third season end of Europe’s richest poker tournament?

With a buy-in of €10,000, you could be in the company of the previous season’s EPT winners including Jeff Williams who last year walked away with €900,000!

WPT Foxwoods

There’s no better place to mingle with poker professionals and amateurs alike than Foxwoods Casino, nestled in the lush green woodlands of Connecticut. And if you’re there between November 8 and November 13 you can be among the hundreds of hopeful entrants who will compete in one of poker’s premier events, the World Poker Finals.

Last year’s WPT final table action at Foxwoods Casino resulted in Victor Ramdin walking away with over $1 million in winnings and the ultimate title after a grueling 6 hours of play that included 120 hands of poker. Victor beat out 430 other entrants. If you’ve got the buy-in fee, you too can be among this year’s WPT Foxwoods hopefuls!

Irish Open

The Irish Open is Europe’s biggest, oldest, and most prestigious No Limit Holdem poker tournament. This year 800 enthusiastic poker players will gather in Dublin April 6th thru April 9th for their chance to win a guaranteed €2 Million. Now in its 26th year, the Irish Open attracts poker professionals from around the world. The buy in for this poker event is €3,300 and the fee to register is €200.

Hey, how about some free seats?

You have an opportunity right now to win a free seat to these and other 2007 poker events at several online poker sites. Besides the free seat and the chance to play poker against some of today’s most skilled players, many these contests are throwing in travel and hotel accommodations and spending money too! There’s no easier (and cheaper!) way to look like you’re a member of the High-Rollers club than by winning a free seat.

To see what Doyle’s Room has to offer just click here.

To see how you can sign up to win a free seat at pokertime.com click here then choose the event from the column on the left.

And if you don’t know much about how these tournaments work you’ll definitely want to read this article at poker.com first.
