Stricter Age Verification for online casino games
A new study at Oregon has suggested that strict age verification at online casinos can be a wise move, both politically and morally in order to ensure fair play at online gaming sites. This move can help the US legislators to overlook into the accusations made by the family groups, that the majority of online gaming sites are socially irresponsible and dangerous. Online casinos must make it a priority to prevent teen’s access thereby decreasing the chances of problem gaming.
According to survey that is part of the study carried out by the Oregon department of health services, underage participation in gaming sites is on a regular increase. Paul D. Potter who is a problem gambling manager at the state DHS stated: “The emergence of free gambling on the Internet is no surprise, but is of real concern,â€
Several online casinos are aware of the problem of teen’s participation and are guarding it vigilantly. But the free games sections of those casinos are still not much secure thereby exposing it to criticism and increasing the chances of problem gaming. According to Potter, teens that play at these gaming sites can develop problem gaming habit as much as four times than normal.
The study further showed that 80% of the under age gamblers have been declined by the casino and lottery sites over the last decade, which is a very positive development. The study has warned parents to keep a vigilant eye on their children internet habits and make themselves aware of what games they are playing.
US legislators will undoubtedly include tight age verification for underage participants mainly focusing on free gaming sections of the gaming websites. Almost all internet casinos
have free gaming section, where no money is gambled, but the process of registration is much simple and there is less concern with age or identity, thereby exposing it to problem gaming.
