If you find a site that looks like it meets your standards, you may do a little research into the software they use, to see if it has caused any problems for others. You are wise to be wary of any software, but as mentioned above, an above board gambling site should certainly provide trouble free software for you to use.

I agree with wifesawaycatwillplayPOKER. In addition to that, you can have a good anti-virus, anti-spyware software installed so if there is any known virus or spyware coming to your system, and it will catch easily. You can find some free anti-virus such as AVG.

The issue will be if the software itself is designed to act as a spyware. In this case wifesawaycatwillplayPOKER's method is suggested.

Additionally, you can read online forums such as this and many others for the information about malware in game software. This is one reliable way to get to know if anyone has run in to a trouble with any gambling software.

There was an incident reported in February 2005 that when Gambling Federation software was installed, it changed C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file with the knowledge of the user as this software has been infected by malware.

Since there are dozens of Gambling Federation online casinos, many users were infected due to this issue.

Just a follow up for my own post; Kaspersky and BitDefender are two really good anti-malware software and they both have a higher detection rate. The prices are relatively cheaper and good value for the money as well.

BitDefender sucks big time. It makes the computer slow as hell and you won't be able to do anything in your computer.

Try Kaspersky, AVG, or Awast as anti virus software. These are good and latter two can be downloaded free of charge.

Avast! is the ultimate free virus software for desktop computers. It does not make your computer slower the way BitDefender or Kaspersky does. You can download it for free and it has automatic updates as well.

Kaspersky does a lot of blocking for sites such as gambling sites etc. But Avast is quite good in that way and has some common sense
