Iowa Lottery Victim of the Financial Crisis in USA
Started in 1985 Iowa Lottery is basically a welfare organization, helping US Govt. programs for Public Safety, Health, Family Services, Natural Resources and Education. Iowa Lottery is one of the biggest lotteries with earning of $1.1 Billion. Last year Iowa Lottery was amongst the most successful lotteries with record earnings of $ 57 Million in shape of profit.

But this session started with a bad patch, two factors are mainly responsible for the company slow growth this year, one is the overall country economic meltdown, which has resulted in collapse of other big giants too, the second is the record floods in the state of IOWA, increase in gas prices has also contributed to the injury.

Iowa Lottery is also facing pinched like other businesses in the state. They want their people to invest in the business with a lot of thought and keep the company reputation in the mind. Latest Sales figures for July-2008 to Oct –2008 for Iowa Lottery show a decrease of about 5.6 % comparing to the last year, With the Total sales reaching only $776.6 Million. Iowa Lottery has a work force of 801 people but due to economic meltdown which has significantly affected the company growth, the company has decided to lay off 41 workers from their staff and cancelled the filling of 15 vacancies lying vacant.

The Company representative mentioned that Iowa Lottery Management is taking some initiatives to step up sales in order to overcome the downtrend in the overall performance of the company.

Iowa Lottery is planning to introduce new games and changes in rules procedure to boost up the investor confidence in the Company. They have managed to raise the sale in few areas about 11.5 %, for this reason the company management is pretty hopeful things will improve from now on.

Most of the people across the state, who were regular participants in the lottery program, have reacted to the situation. Most of them mentioned that the overall economy, employment and business conditions are not good across the whole country that is why they find it hard to put money into IOWA lottery.

The IOWA lottery Management also understands that Iowa people have other priorities right now, many are jobless, small businesses are finding it hard to get credit, so spending money on conveniences like Iowa Lottery is definitely a tough task. But they are hoping that in future things will get back on track.
